Why are people so excited about Universal Health Care?

Do they do any research into it? Or are they excited because its going to be free?

Universal Health Care is like having Universal Grocery Insurance:

Suppose you had grocery insurance. With your Government paying 100% percent of the bill, you would fill the cart with lobster and filet mignon. Everything would cost more because supermarkets would stop running sales. Why should they, when their customers barely care about the price?

Suppose everyone had transportation insurance. The roads would be crowded with Mercedes. Why buy a Chevy if the government pays?

People have gotten so used to having “other” people pay for most of our health care that we routinely ask for insurance with low or no deductibles. This is another bad idea.

Suppose car insurance worked that way. Every time you got a little dent or the paint faded, or every time you buy gas or change the oil, you’d fill out endless forms and wait for reimbursement from your insurance company. Gas prices would quickly rise because service stations would know that you no longer care about the price. You’d become more wasteful: jackrabbit starts, speeding, wasting gas. Who cares? You are not paying any of the bill.

Now where do you think the Top Rated doctors in the world Practice? Imagine going to have a heart bypass (You have been on the waiting list for over 2 years now since its universal healthcare) and the surgeon performing the operation only took the MCAT test 8 times before he finally passed it, and barely passed his boards and internships, and best of all, since now its like DMV Service, your the 7th bypass he has done that day, and there are 2 more waiting behind you.

Why are people so excited about this idea? Isnt this why most of the people who have the opportunity to come to the US for treatment come here? Instead of using their own Universal Insurance in their country?

But, I guess *FREE* is the new slogan of today’s America.
Im going overboard?? And someone else says Its going to be more efficient?? Thats why THOUSANDS in England pull thier own teeth out because they cant take the pain and waiting 2 years to see a dentist… http://www.cnn.com/2007/WORLD/europe/10/15/england.dentists/index.html

A universal health care plan sounds great but no one has a clue how to make it work for 300 million people. Most cite examples of much smaller countries (Canada 33,224,000, France 64,473,140). Many of those that are having their own problems currently:

- UK is now in favor of denying overweight people & smokers because of high costs (how would that go over in the land of the obese people?

- Like every other nation, France is wrestling with runaway health-care inflation. That has led to some hefty tax hikes, and France is now considering U.S.-style health-maintenance organization tactics to rein in costs.

Also how would we charge? I was thinking start with a base price and also charge per hour. For example $100 dollars base charge (that will also cover the materials) plus $10 for every hour spent on the mural.
Also would people take 17 and 18 year olds seriously? I’m mature for my age and I was thinking we could put up examples of our artwork on our website for people to view.
I should say you charge per mural and increase or decrease the price depending on the complexity of the design and the area of the wall to be painted. The website idea is a good way to showcase your design but the best examples to show to your prospective clients are the projects and artworks you have already completed.

Admin answers:

A. Never undercut your prices. You’re doing a disservice to yourself in the future and to your business in general. People will grow to expect low prices and if you reach a point where you’re doing something like that for a living (ie – to pay your mortgage, buy your food, put clothes on your back) you’re going to have shot yourself in the foot because you won’t be able to afford to live.

B. You should be able to estimate about how much time and material you’re going to need to get the work done. Say, you have to buy 100 dollars worth of paint and other supplies, include that in your costs. Estimate how much time it’s going to take to complete a project, say, 24 total hours. How many people are going to be working doing this? Is there one person in charge (and therefore paid more)? Is everyone equal? How much money would you be making working at walmart? Shouldn’t you be paid more than that, considering you’re doing skilled labor?

You’re going to need to charge enough to cover each painter’s time, all of those supplies, etc. You’re going to have to give the person purchasing your art a rough estimate as to what this should cost. And potentially ask for half up front. You need to be able to cover supplies.

C. If you earn enough money you might have to pay taxes on it. Set some of the money you earn (on an individual basis) aside so you can pay them. If you’re not going to pay taxes on your income, well, i’m not giving you any advice on that.

D. If you’re offering quality work, people will take you seriously. But, you have to act serious.

E. If you want to paint murals but have no experience doing so, ask your parents if you can design something for them somewhere in your house. Take pictures. Have your parents cover the supllies, you do the work for free or in exchange for whatever they want to do for you.

F. I do this but i work by myself. Maybe i’m just not a team player but working with other people on a painting can be a bit of a hassle.

I am in PA. Technically, it is not a license, but you do need some sort of entity to file taxes against. He could do it as a contract worker, but then he will have to file get a record of his sale from each place he works at the end of the year. More importantly, he needs insurance.
Start an LLC (limited liability corp) that way your family’s personal assets will be protected in case he gets sued. Start the LLC and then get some sort of business insurance, which will be relatively inexpensive for painting. You are looking at less than $1,000 for both.

You need to do some Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) work on your site. For a start you could try the following:

Firstly, add the keywords “hampshire lead certified painting contractors” to the ‘keyword tag’ and ‘title tag’ of your website.

I know that I will never be successful without being able to say I have insurance, but I am just looking to make money over the next 2 years while providing a great paint job this energetic student will provide. Is it worth it?

Before you start a business would be good for you to do a 5-year business plan (see: sba.gov) to determine if you will be in business 5 years later. It should take you three months to prepare. I would suggest that you have health and accident insurance for yourself. Instead of hiring employees you would hire independent contractors who should have their own insurance (ask them before you hire them) and then they sign a waiver with you that neither you nor your company nor your clients would be responsible if they get hurt on the job and that neither you nor your business or clients would be responsible if they caused any damage, stole anything, etc. You will need a vehicle to cart around your equipment. I suppose NY is like any other state in that (if you’re working locally) then you would need a name for your business so you would get a local occupational license and perhaps a state license also thru the department of corporations. Because you work with paint, you might have to pay a fee for the paint disposal to your county. I don’t know if paint has lead in it anymore but you must be careful not to use that kind of paint as at least here there is a law against lead paint. And, consider, what would you do if you were asked to paint over old lead based paint. I suppose you should be able to know the difference so that it could be removed before you sign any contract.
You ask about any other expenses, seems to ladders, buckets, rollers (two sizes) and a metal pan, rags, paint remover, an edger, and some poles to attach to the rollers and maybe even masks (and goggles?) and of course your outfit (hat, clothes and protective shoes) would be appropriate. When you hire independent contractors if they use your equipment then you would be responsible for them, so you would need to make sure they bring their own equipment. You’d probably need a cell phone, and maybe even someone at home to take your calls and set your appointments if you’re working for several places.

You ask, “is it worth it?”. Only you will know after preparing your 5-year plan. Normally in business a company doesn’t make a profit until the 4th or 5th year. If you were looking to make money for school I’d say I don’t think that will happen, but, your knowing the business you could ask someone who is in it already. People that are in businesses where manual labor is required, they get insurance to cover them in case they hurt their back and can’t ever do that work again, or they trip and fall and somehow mangle a leg or something. After you do the plan you will know how much money you need and if you have paid your rent and utilities timely and have credit cards, etc. To make determination from or have discussed this with your family, maybe you can get a loan for what you need to start the business, and make sure that you get that personal protection insurance for yourself. And you will need someone to help you draw up your contracts (for your own protection) and usually people know an attorney and an accountant and someone who does collections as well. Be sure to get some upfront money from your clients when you start so that you can buy the paint. Here we have the white semi-gloss (seems like it has a latex base). Best of luck to you.

RMDs do not apply to annuities unless the annuity is an IRA.

If it is an IRA, include the value with all IRAs (not Roth) and divide by the applicable divisor from the IRS table to determine your RMD for the year. You need not withdraw from each IRA to satisfy your RMD, you need only satisfy the amount.

Hope that helps.

People have gotten so used to having other people pay for most of our health care that we routinely ask for insurance with low or no deductibles.

Where do you stand against illegal immigration?

Where do you stand against Illegal Immigration?
This is an article I found to answer a lot of common myths.

1. It is NOT racist to call these people “illegal aliens” In fact, “illegal aliens” is the only term used in federal laws and regulations to describe criminals (and they ARE criminals) who come into our country illegally. They are not illegal immigrants, not undocumented immigrants, not migrant workers, and not day laborers – they’re ILLEGAL ALIENS.

2. Mexico is NOT a poor country. By sending its teeming masses to our country, that status keeps on rising. Mexico has more resources per square mile than the U.S. and plenty of money to take care of its own people. Why should the taxpayers of this country subsidize Mexico’s corruption?

3. Illegal aliens are NOT necessarily coming here to work. Lou Dobbs recently reported that 33 percent of our prison population is now comprised of non-citizens. Plus, 36 to 42 percent of illegal aliens are on welfare. So, for a good proportion of these people, the American dream is crime and welfare, not coming here to work.

4. Illegal aliens are NOT doing work Americans won’t do. What jobs won’t Americans do? In most states, Americans still clean their own houses, do their own landscaping, clean hotel rooms, work in restaurants and fast food places, paint houses, DO CONSTRUCTION WORK, work in airports, etc. – just like we have the past 200 years before “our” government allowed these people to invade our country. There are 18 million Americans who cannot find a job, so illegal aliens who are coming here to work do so at peril to American workers.

5. Illegal aliens absolutely do not contribute more than they cost. Certainly the millions in prison and on welfare aren’t contributing a dime to our economy, and the ones who are working often are paid in cash with no deductions for taxes at all. The ones who use fraudulent social security numbers and qualify to pay taxes and social security have so many deductions for dependents that they pay little if any taxes. We have seen them pay less than $100 in taxes and get back $4,000 refunds (thanks to earned income tax credits and multiple dependents). Some bargain, eh?

6. The economy does NOT depend on illegal aliens. Sure, greedy CEOs (making $50 to $150 MILLION a year) and business owners depend on illegal aliens, but due to #3, #4 and #5 above, the only thing illegal aliens are contributing to is the collapse of our economy and making the rich richer.

7. Without illegal aliens, the price of agricultural products and other goods and services will NOT soar. The definitive study on this subject is the University of Iowa’s “How Much Is That Tomato?” The study concludes that ‘since labor is such a small component of the end-price of agricultural products (which includes price to the growers, transportation costs, processing /storage costs, grocers’ profit, etc.), using minimum wage workers instead of illegal aliens would increase prices of agricultural products by approximately 3 percent in the summer and 4 percent in the winter … hardly the making of $10 heads of lettuce, $25 hamburgers, $1,000 per night Days Inn hotel rooms like the pro-illegal alien lobby claims.

8. Consumers are NOT benefiting from lower labor costs. Again, it’s CEOs and business owners who benefit from taxpayer subsidies for their illegal alien workers. The Big Three automakers say they moved so many jobs to Mexico because their labor costs are 80 percent less than in America. Anybody notice the price of new cars spiraling downward under NAFTA?

So, before you believe the prevalent pack of lies perpetuated by the illegal alien lobby, which makes billions off this government-sanctioned criminal activity, ask yourself who’s saying this garbage and look at what they have to gain. Citizens Against Illegal Immigration, just like Protect Arizona NOW, is an all-volunteer, totally grass-roots organization of citizens who are making nothing and have nothing personal to gain from their efforts to fight this corruption. Whose side are you on, and what are YOU doing to save your state and country from this evil?

Paint is paint, when painting a car its ALL about preparation! Maaco roughly scuffs (body term – sands the car down) lightly. The paint job will look great for a few months but after that the weather and other variables get to it and it will chip and peel.

Admin answers:

I have been shipping artworks for over twenty years and have had all kinds of problems, loss and damage, with both FedEx and UPS. However, in the over 200 paintings I have sent with USPS, mostly by priority mail, I have had no problems at all.

If you are buying your boxes at the FedEx store, you are paying too much. You can often get the right size boxes (large and not deeper than 2 to 4 inches) by talking to your local art store, frame shop, graphic (advertising) studio or print shop. All of these businesses get supplies shipped in to them in box sizes you can use or cut up easily to the sizes you need.

I used to ask for boxes from the art store when I was buying paint, and they were very happy to get rid of whatever I would take. The local computer store also gave me some, complete with styrofoam fillers. A nearby graphic studio gave me marvelous flat film boxes, less than an inch deep but such a heavy cardboard that they were indestructible.

If you are going to do a lot of shipping in the future, check www.uline.com. They have a huge selection of sizes, and you can often order just 25 at a much better price than the FedEx store.

If Obamacare is so great, why have 111 union run companies received an Obama “waiver”?

Obama said this would be such a great program, yet he gave the following unions a “waiver” not to participate?

According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services website, at least 111 waivers have now been granted to companies, unions and other organizations of all sizes who offer affordable health insurance or prescription drug coverage with limited benefits. Obamacare architects sought to eliminate those low-cost plans under the guise of controlling insurer spending on executive salaries and marketing.

It’s all about control. If central planners can’t dictate what health benefits qualify as “good,” what plans qualify as “affordable” and how health care dollars are best spent, then nobody can. The ultimate goal, of course: precipitating a massive shift from private to government insurance.

McDonald’s, Olive Garden, Red Lobster and Jack in the Box are among the large, headline-garnering employers who received the temporary waivers. But perhaps the most politically noteworthy beneficiaries of the HHS waiver program: Big Labor.

The Service Employees Benefit Fund, which insures a total of 12,000 SEIU health care workers in upstate New York, secured its Obamacare exemption in October. The Local 25 SEIU Welfare Fund in Chicago also nabbed a waiver for 31,000 of its enrollees. SEIU, of course, was one of Obamacare’s loudest and biggest spending proponents. The waivers come on top of the massive sweetheart deal that SEIU and other unions cut with the Obama administration to exempt them from the health care mandate’s onerous “Cadillac tax” on high-cost health care plans until 2018.

Other unions who won protection from Obamacare:

– United Food and Commercial Workers Allied Trade Health and Welfare Trust Fund

– International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Union No. 915

– Asbestos Workers Local 53 Welfare Fund

– Employees Security Fund

– Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 123 Welfare Fund

– United Food and Commercial Workers Local 227

– United Food and Commercial Workers Local 455 (Maximus)

– United Food and Commercial Workers Local 1262

– Musicians Health Fund Local 802

– Hospitality Benefit Fund Local 17

– Transport Workers Union

– United Federation of Teachers Welfare Fund

– International Union of Painters and Allied Trades (AFL-CIO)

– Plus two organizations that appear to be chapters of the International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA)

The waivers are temporary. Your question is deliberately misleading. There are not 111 unions or “union run companies” (whatever that means) with waivers.

The waiver program is intended to provide continuous coverage until 2014, when government-organized marketplaces will offer insurance subsidized by tax credits.

What is so hard to understand about that? That is hardly an indictment of the health care reform program.

Most painters began with the background, but when painting people, I always begin with them. I would do the childs face, clothes, etc. The skin tones I would use are red-orange, a small amount of burnt umber for the skin tone and a lot of white all mixed together. According to how much burnt umber that is added, you can get different shades of the skin tone and the white , a real light skin tone. I would use the burnt umber for the shadows on the skin as black tends to be too much. Then the hair and the clothes and the background.

Admin answers:

A painting would be infringement only if somehow mechanically reproduced from the photo. A painting ordinarily entails so many creative decisions regarding brushes, colors, media, and such that they have never been considered a derivative work. Even in photography, one shooter cannot claim exclusive right to a particular scene. Everyone is entitled to snap a picture of a sunset even though there are plenty of copyrighted sunset photos. The photographers copyright does not extend to the subject matter of the photo. So you can paint anything, but if the subject is recognizable, they might protest. For example if you painted the Queen as wearing a bikini, there might be legal action to supress the display, but it would not be based on copyright issue.

If the neighbors sue you – what will they sue you for? Replacement of the fence is basically what they can sue you for. In courts these days, they will probably send you to arbitration and let the arbitrator sort things out, which will mean you and your neighbor will have to talk.

I want to rent an inflatable slide and have games like ring toss, throw ball in bucket an dart toss(on the balloons) there will be prizes too. Like fish and teddies! I will have loud music playing and there will also be that huge standing board thing where you put your head in the hole so it looks like you are a monkey or something else. and someone takes a picture of you! I was also thinking about face painting and balloon twisting! I was going to have cotton candy and sno cones. and for food hamburgers, hot dogs, cake, and pop. for party favors i was going to get pop corn bag like(like in theaters)and fill up most of the way with pop corn and ad in a paddle ball, noise maker, lolly pop, candy apple and a thank you card. I no all my friends love to go to carnivals and complain because they cannot go on all the things the little kids can. I thought it could be a big kid day just for us:) so we can feel like a kid again! What do you think of this idea? thanks.

we are all in high school and love to have fun!
ps. i am inviting 50 ppl(maybe more)

When is the Right going to admit it is trying to reverse the perception of the left?

They say the Left is against free speech, but yet the Left are not the ones shutting down the free internet. They are not the ones with the paid for mouth pieces of lies like Hannity and Limbaugh – Fox – EIB

They say the Left tampered with elections, yet the Left were not the ones who approached Clinton Curtis and asked him to create software that would flip votes and fix an election.

They say that the Left does not support the troops, yet they were not the ones who sent the troops in without proper armor. They are the ones who want to bring them home before they blown up by roadside bombs because the Iraqi’s are fed up with an unjustified invasion and occupation.

The Right claims the left are hurting the “War on Terror” yet they are the ones who shifted the war into Iraq who had nothing to do with 9/11 or the “War on Terror”.

So my question is this: Why is the Right trying so hard to twist the facts and paint the Left in such a bad light?

Is it the fear of 2008?

What do you call the small metal things that screw into the back of a painting to hold the hanging wire to it?

- we find an pictures or portraits or a picture with a good enough quality on the face/lighting/shading by famous artists and we dress up as the person that famous artist painted, take a photograph–so we will be painting the exact same thing except MY FACE will replace the face that was originally painted

i can’t seem to find any ones that im satisfied with or any ones that i want to impersonate

Painting a room, Ideas….?

Okay, so my sister is getting married and moving out so I’m moving into her room. So i’m in the process in choosing the color to paint it. Here’s the twist, I want to somehow incorporate more than one color into the room with paint. Okay so here’s the thing i’m 18 (almost 19) and I love Interior Design and I have a passion for it but i’m completely dumbfounded at what to do to incorporate more than one color. I have a couple ways I thought of.

1) Put molding up do lighter shade on top, darker on bottom. The only problem with that is I want totally different colors in my room so that wouldn’t work PLUS I was thinking THREE colors in the room.

If anyone has any ideas how to incorporate three colors in a room please tell me! Even if it’s two! Just please let me know and pictures would be great and awesome and really appreciated and you would totally be my hero forever!

Thanks in advance!

You can do like one major color then either horizontal or vertical or even diagonal
you can have as many colors as you want in stripes even swiggly stripes but put then as different thicknesses to make it look abstract alittle.
